HOUSE NOMAD

is a temporary and mobile carrier that goes from one place to another. You do not have

a fixed, but is constantly moving.

nomadism is often linked with a form of tribal organization or

that anthropologists call a "segmented society " , ie a society

structured in lineages, clans, tribes.

Examples prehistoric groups in the region of Patagonia:

    1
  • Peoples of the Patagonian coast (Canoeists): Chang, Cuncos, Kaweskar Chono, Alacalufes, Yagan, Aonikenk

  • 2 Peoples of the Cordillera: Chiquillanes, Pehuenche Puelches Poyas, Tehuelches,

Selknam.

  • 3. current groups in the region of southern Patagonia:

Barrios rapid construction of houses, plots of land they occupy so.

is temporary initially, but travels around the city usually uninhabited places. In this last time inhabited by immigrants are somehow immigrants seeking their place in the earth and not find it: a sort of expellees in the world. The phenomenon is incorporated into the global movement of migration to the cities in search of work. In Patagonia despite the availability of extensions and work the land has been privatized giant estates with a concurrent process of billionaire owners and cities are expanding rapidly but within a limited space with a population increase in a geometric scale. A Patagonian city doubles in population in ten years, even without magnification, the surface virtually.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT, RATIONALE

Miguel Angel Auzoberría *

recurrence is significant to nomadism as a form of survival in the region,

yesterday were the primitive peoples, Mapuche, Tehuelche, Ona ... Moving from

side to side in search of food, there are now new hunter-gatherers.

Patagonia from its colonization to the present day has been one territory to "win"

to occupy, and the first obstacle has been the harsh climate, cold, wind,

snow, hence the need for a shelter that shields the man from the hard

winters, the weather.

Wood and metal were the most economical and easy to access, apart

to allow rapid construction to settle in places more inhospitable.

Once established, dedicated to the intensive sheep farming, and

all the splendor that allowed profits, the new kings of the region

began bringing their houses from Europe, noble houses of wood that came

disarmed and provided with an instruction manual to assemble them with the best luxuries and

art amenities of the era could afford.

These units considered as historical and cultural heritage in the region and as

photographed by tourists, are the homes of a golden age, good prices

wool many sheep and few inhabitants.

Then there are the more humble houses made of wooden structure with zinc

machimbradas1 outside and inside ... houses sleigh base to allow

transfer from one place to another, for the convenience of inhabitant or in terrain found .

Geography is conceptual. A concept moves the story through the failure of

fixation in the field as an essential brevity of the commons. All communal

There

a split that is observed between processes of identity formation in

citizenship, which ultimately call into question, from a symbolic standpoint, the

processes of incorporation of the designated spots. The actions of the crowd

become political when they appropriate the space, establish new residences and in

that mobility, active subjects are free or out of place. The place is

wool, sheep and few inhabitants.

Then there are the more humble houses made of wooden structure with zinc

out and machimbrada 1 inside ... houses sleigh base to allow

transfer from one place to another, for the convenience of the resident or the terrain

found.

When I moved to Rio Gallegos, in the late '70s, I was surprised to learn

time to time a truck pulling a full house, dragging from one end to another

of the city.

Years later I saw in Puerto Natales (Chile), a group of tourists photographing

fascinated a similar situation.

In our region of large tracts of land in few hands, peoples

surrounded by public land or national parks is not much land to offer,

the man who come in search of places where you can work, build your house

The

distance and bureaucracy made all occupied peoples anarchic, but

that this has occurred in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, come and go, the most

serious is what happens today in the twenty-first century, where Ushuaia is only

example that reproduces to infinity.

Ushuaia when progress means deterioration

is recognized for the founding of the city on October 12, 1884, the day

which opened Maritime Subprefecture Tierra del Fuego, a decision

taken by the national government to have a continuous and active presence in

the territory. Thus was born Ushuaia, framed by the bay and the hills that surround it,

defining their space, their field, ie its limits.

occupation process was slow and could say quite orderly for

little or no guidance on how authorities and procedures more

adequate proper use of space, how to build, etc.

Fourteen years after the writer Robert J. Payro, conveyed in his book "The Australia

Argentina," a pastoral vision of the people, "Ushuaia was presented once, portrayed

as the mission with the tower of his church, docks, boats, the

chalets and houses, from whose chimneys smoke light escaped soon

faded, in the still lake, mirroring the sky " 2.

Everything was very quiet, slow and even casually, during the first 60 years

twentieth century, until in the early '70s, the explosion occurred

population that led to the growth of the city at a rapid pace, and indeed

messy.

The enactment of Law No. 19,640 / 77, Industrial Promotion, attracted large flows

of internal migrants, many groups of Argentines in search of better

working conditions reached the "island" as they called on the continent

Tierra del Fuego, powerful economic groups arrived to build their houses

to produce under the tax exemption that favored them, and hand

came to volunteer work in the new Mecca of work in a few days

getting engaged, but the hardest thing was to locate where they live.

Then Ushuaia began to grow so rapidly occupying

messy vacant land, these houses boxes or nomads, in essence these

substandard housing, are the symbol of capitalism that is spreading in

territory and these homes were born like mushrooms after a rain surround the

place where the work where this wealth. They are set to take what

they can., As in the past of the lords of wool, brought from home

Europe and shearing sheds huge, overcrowded with pawns sad

cabins ... live today quickly erected houses, fighting for a piece of

ground, climbing in the hills, settling where they may.

Beyond the crisis and the upheavals of the electronics industry in the eighties, and

tragic nineties, the city has never ceased to be a pole Attraction; permanently

were coming Argentine provinces where "the thing is worse than

Ushuaia" because if the industry had little work, the beauty of always

would lead to work in tourism.

And paradoxically this overcrowding is against the landscape, spoiling the

nature, the most important wealth in the province. But that rapid growth

grew exponentially after the 2001 crisis that our country lived.

Very recently the journalist of the newspaper Clarín, Matilde Sanchez, consigned by

article this situation by saying: "Due to immigration since 2001 Ushuaia lives a

unique demographic explosion and the tourist boom took vacation into the stratosphere. A

journey through the last settlements reveals much more than an urban landscape

degraded. "(...)" The hill was named after the bag being a very windy at

which will give stray plastic bags. In winter these are engaged in

opened two paths through the trees and soon hundreds had been installed in

styrofoam precarious shacks that burn more than wood. Today 250 families live

from all over the country and Bolivia. " 4

Overcrowding in homes live with the hope of these people, looking

improve their lives, with the possibility of work, something that reminds me of that poem July

José Leite, the greatest poet of Tierra del Fuego, saying: "José Nemesio

Gallardo, this machimbrado the womb of his house / Three kids were not enough,

to do another room / The paty prepared as good mother, good

gestating female is light / Harto happy the two, he is the machimbrado

belly

home / She weaves hope, smiles the mud / They are

back giving birth to a village officials. 5

The tourism and construction are growing activities

permanently, are 200 000 visitors arriving throughout the year, 280 vessels

docking at its port, the landscape is there to offer comfort, then

build huts for tourists, home to nomadic managers and boxes for

the workers who must work quickly to respond to the visitor.

That is the reality of Ushuaia and many towns in Patagonia are

growing explosively around the tourist trade or oil ... what

significant is that we know, because it has happened in other times, it happens

with these growth tied to economic activity, when the companies

accounts will not close them and only left the desolation, have we learned? O

repeat until infinity always the same mistakes.

Inside out.

is possible to identify certain types of claims to truth and habituation with

world as regards an inward movement. Moving into carried

create space without creating place. All outward movement is a shift toward

beside himself, a narrative of relationships involving the interaction of characters,

places and events within a single story, like the echo of a vacuum that

just created. The place is "in-place" , as if in the "no" would

be possible. The sense of space would be in place to combat which

out provisions. Space without place, a place without space.

For many there is a possibility of place. Then the gap is to be done outside

of place elsewhere in the site as an "inside out." In true

space, which runs like scrubbing for the places without being a place but "a

inside." Is not affordable to be in the out of place. Let yourself get out of

place to see the space inside has no obligation to place. A holy

interiority. Within the geographical concept of the outside also helps. The exclusion

penetrates and makes a hole.
